The genre nourishes from models and meanings that societies build around what is expected from a man or a woman, but far from being an immutable and rigid structure, they must be permanently questioned, disobeyed, specially when these models hide oppression, discrimination, violence and injustice. We are still spectators of amoral conducts that lead women from all over the world to dreprive themselves of their own subjectivity cultural commands and accomplice silence legitimate unbalanced relationships, hidding oppressive conducts that make an attempt against the dignity and self-esteem.

Wild acts that promote the depreciation and violence towards the female sex, subduings us to inhuman practices that cut farther away the so much claimed equality.

Movies are a way to break the daily silence and to make visible the unequal relationships ways established between men and women.

It´s a space and discourse manner that allows us to denaturalize and question the obedience, the violence, the dependance and the submission.

The movie practice makes us reflect about the social stereotypes that women from different cultures have to endure, the social suggestion that they personify in their bodies.

The international festival of women and movies is conceived as a space to debate and talk about issues that concern to all of us. Therefore, is about to discuss, in order to abandon false dependencies, to make visible the violence legitimation that is exercised both physically and psychologically and to the fact of having been born as woman, that wild violence that appears in girls sexual abuse, women´s prostitution and labor exploitation and women´s family ambit.

Images interpellate us about our behavior, our prejudices, our silences. They insist on our thinking about new ways of looking and also looking at ourselves, of relating and recognize ourselves in the difference. The struggle consists of making the determinated values shake, diluting values that support cruelty from ones to the expense of others. To defend human rights, adding genre perspective is a task that leads us to crush inertia and break the silence of what has been unfairly established.

It´s a long way. It´s necessary to start to see in order to stop obeying.
